Role Context
The Physical Education Teacher - Primary School role supports high-quality PE teaching at Abdulla Bin Otaiba Charter School in Abu Dhabi. The teacher will deliver physical education lessons that motivate students, encourage healthy participation, and support the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of young learners.
This position requires a reflective and collaborative educator who can support the full ability range, use assessment information to guide planning, and maintain a safe, engaging, and inclusive sports learning environment. The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum action groups, extra-curricular activities, parent communication, safeguarding practice, and the wider life of the school.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver Physical Education lessons that inspire students and support strong learning outcomes.
* Plan, prepare, and present PE sessions aligned with curriculum requirements and student needs.
* Support students in developing movement skills, fitness, coordination, teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship.
* Organise sports spaces, learning resources, equipment, and displays to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
* Use enthusiastic and imaginative teaching approaches to motivate pupils and encourage active participation.
* Work alongside fellow teachers to plan engaging lessons and support consistent curriculum delivery.
* Support the full ability range through differentiated instruction and inclusive physical education practice.
* Observe, assess, and record student progress in line with school assessment expectations.
* Use Target Tracker and assessment data to guide future planning, lesson provision, and intervention.
* Reflect on lesson delivery, student progress, learning routines, and curriculum practice to improve outcomes.
* Work cooperatively with curriculum support staff and external professionals where required.
* Communicate clearly with parents and carers about student achievement, progress, and wellbeing.
* Follow the school behaviour policy and manage classes using approaches that inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils.
* Maintain positive relationships with students while promoting self-control, independence, respect, and responsible behaviour.
* Use CPOMS and school systems where appropriate to communicate student achievement, wellbeing, or safeguarding concerns.
* Participate in curriculum action groups, planning, assessment, resources, and special events.
* Support school outings, activities, evening events, weekend events, and wider community initiatives when required.
* Run a weekly ECA each term to strengthen student participation beyond regular PE lessons.
* Uphold safeguarding, child protection, professional conduct, health and safety, and all school policy requirements.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or a related subject.
* PGCE or another recognised teacher qualification.
* Minimum 1-2 years of teaching experience.
* Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
* Clear understanding of curriculum delivery, student assessment, and inclusive physical education practice.
* Ability to teach PE with energy, structure, patience, and strong safety awareness.
* Strong communication skills with students, parents, carers, colleagues, and the wider school community.
* Collaborative approach with the flexibility to work across teams and support shared goals.
* Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
* High level of professionalism and consideration for student wellbeing.
* Recent and consistent involvement in extra-curricular activities.
