Role Context

The Primary Teacher - American Curriculum will be responsible for creating a purposeful classroom where students are motivated, supported, challenged, and encouraged to achieve successful learning outcomes. The role combines lesson planning, classroom provision, assessment, data-informed intervention, behaviour guidance, and communication with parents and professionals. By embedding positive learning attitudes, supporting students with different abilities, and contributing to extracurricular and curriculum activities, the teacher will play an important part in strengthening student wellbeing and academic growth in Abu Dhabi’s school education sector.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver well-planned classroom sessions aligned with the American curriculum and the needs of the full ability range within the class.
* Organize classroom provision, learning resources, and displays to create a positive, engaging, and student-centered learning environment.
* Plan, prepare, and present lessons that motivate pupils through enthusiastic, imaginative, and inclusive teaching.
* Demonstrate a clear understanding of curriculum expectations and adapt planning to support student progress.
* Observe, assess, and record children’s development in line with school assessment procedures.
* Reflect on classroom provision, taught sessions, student progress, and learning outcomes, then adjust planning and the environment where needed.
* Use Target Tracker and school assessment data to inform future planning, intervention, provision, and student support.
* Take responsibility for the progress of the class and ensure learning targets are reviewed and acted upon.
* Provide feedback to parents and carers on student achievement, wellbeing, and next steps during parent teacher conferences and other meetings.
* Work with specialists such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and inclusion staff when required.
* Support the use of Teacher and Learner DNA language, values, and attitudes throughout classroom practice and the wider curriculum.
* Follow the school’s behaviour policy and use appropriate approaches to inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils.
* Maintain positive relationships with students while exercising appropriate authority and responding decisively when necessary.
* Act as a positive role model by demonstrating the values, attitudes, and behaviour expected from students.
* Promote high expectations for behaviour, self-control, independence, respect, and responsibility among learners.
* Carry out school duties as directed and in line with school policy.
* Work as part of a curriculum action group, supporting planning, assessment, resources, and special events linked to that team.
* Support school events, outings, activities, and community initiatives, including activities that may take place in the evening or at weekends.
* Communicate effectively with parents and carers through approved school systems and processes, including CPOMS where appropriate.
* Make a positive contribution to the wider life, values, and ethos of the school.
* Run a weekly extracurricular activity each term to enrich student learning beyond the classroom.

Ideal Profile

* Bachelor’s Degree in a related subject with PGCE or another recognized teaching qualification.
* Minimum 2 years of teaching experience.
* Previous experience in an American curriculum or international school environment will be an advantage.
* Experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
* Strong understanding of classroom teaching, curriculum planning, assessment, differentiation, and student progress tracking.
* Able to plan learning that supports different abilities, learning needs, and levels of confidence within the class.
* Confident using assessment data and Target Tracker to identify gaps, guide intervention, and improve outcomes.
* Skilled in creating engaging classroom displays, learning resources, routines, and purposeful classroom environments.
* Passion for teaching and a strong commitment to educating the whole child.
* High level of professionalism with genuine care for the wellbeing, safety, and development of children.
* Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities or wider school life.
* Respectful toward all members of the school community regardless of position, gender, age, nationality, or background.
* Positive, resilient, and solution-focused approach to daily school life.
* Strong communication skills with students, parents, colleagues, specialists, and school leaders.
* Clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police clearance.
* Genuine appreciation for UAE culture, values, traditions, and the expectations of the region.
