Role Context
The Senior Accountant provides the financial discipline
Working between the school and Aldar Education\'s central finance functions, the accountant will also maintain strong controls over procurement, supplier payments, assets, cash, bank accounts, and balance sheet positions. Accurate and timely execution is essential to financial governance, audit readiness, budget visibility, and the efficient use of school resources.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage assigned school finance activities including budgeting, budget control, accounting close, MIS reporting, bank reconciliation, and petty cash.
* Serve as the finance point of contact for matters concerning day-to-day school financial operations.
* Review Purchase Requisitions and confirm sufficient budget availability before approval.
* Validate budget codes and ensure expenditure is allocated to the appropriate accounts.
* Process supplier payments through 3-way matching of invoices, purchase orders, and goods received notes.
* Complete appropriate validation and due diligence before releasing supplier payments.
* Reconcile supplier accounts and identify transactions requiring investigation or corrective action.
* Coordinate with relevant departments to resolve outstanding supplier reconciliation items.
* Administer petty cash in accordance with established financial policies and operational requirements.
* Create fixed assets and maintain accurate accounting records within the fixed asset module.
* Run monthly depreciation and complete fixed asset module closing activities.
* Coordinate month-end accounting processes and ensure financial books close accurately within required deadlines.
* Review general ledger positions and investigate unusual or unreconciled balances.
* Prepare monthly Management Information System reports for review with the Assistant Finance Manager.
* Circulate and present monthly MIS information to the Principal and Operations and Support Manager to support informed decisions.
* Prepare monthly balance sheet schedules and provide supporting analysis for management review.
* Produce bank reconciliation statements and investigate outstanding reconciling items.
* Review bank reconciliations with the Assistant Finance Manager before submission to the Aldar Education Group Finance Treasury team.
* Maintain accurate profit and loss and balance sheet accounts by clearing unresolved balances promptly.
* Support preparation of the annual school budget with detailed analysis of expected expenditure.
* Coordinate budget inputs with school stakeholders and the Head Office Finance team.
* Monitor actual financial performance against approved budgets and highlight significant variances.
* Provide financial documentation and Letters of Representation required for internal and external audits.
* Respond to audit requests and maintain supporting records that demonstrate appropriate financial controls.
* Prepare ad hoc financial reports requested by internal departments or Head Office.
* Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and strengthen school finance controls.
* Handle exceptional parent finance queries professionally and work toward timely resolution.
* Maintain clear financial records and supporting documentation for transactions and reporting.
* Support finance activities at other Aldar Education schools when covering for an absent School Accountant.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should hold a degree in Accounting and have at least five years of relevant experience within a finance function, or possess an appropriate professional qualification.
Professional certifications such as CPA, CA, CMA, CFA, or comparable credentials would be advantageous. A strong working knowledge of advanced accounting principles is required, particularly across financial close, reconciliations, accounts payable, fixed assets, budgeting, and financial reporting.
Practical proficiency with enterprise accounting platforms such as Oracle or SAP is important. Candidates should also be comfortable preparing management reports, analyzing balance sheet positions, supporting audits, and maintaining reliable accounting documentation.
The position requires excellent administrative discipline alongside strong communication and presentation skills. The successful candidate should be capable of explaining financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders, including senior school leadership.
