Role Context

Al Rayana Charter School is a mixed-gender American Curriculum primary school in Abu Dhabi. Its modern learning environment promotes collaboration, leadership, creativity and high expectations for every student.

The Social Studies Teacher will take responsibility for the learning and progress of an assigned class. The role includes lesson planning, assessment, data analysis, family communication, extracurricular participation and collaboration with curriculum and student-support professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging Social Studies lessons aligned with curriculum requirements.
Inspire students to achieve the best possible academic outcomes.
Prepare learning activities for pupils across the full ability range.
Differentiate instruction according to individual learning needs.
Organise classroom resources and displays that promote an engaging environment.
Motivate students through enthusiastic, creative and imaginative teaching.
Assess pupils regularly using approved school assessment processes.
Record student development and academic progress through Target Tracker.
Use assessment data to improve lesson planning, provision and interventions.
Take responsibility for the progress and attainment of an assigned class.
Reflect on teaching effectiveness and adjust planning when required.
Embed the school’s Teacher and Learner DNA throughout the curriculum.
Maintain secure knowledge of the curriculum and relevant teaching practices.
Work collaboratively with teachers to plan effective learning experiences.
Liaise flexibly and professionally with colleagues across the school.
Collaborate with curriculum-support staff to strengthen student development.
Work with speech therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists when required.
Maintain positive relationships with students and the school community.
Communicate student progress and wellbeing to parents and carers.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other family meetings.
Use CPOMS and other approved systems for appropriate student communication.
Follow the school’s behaviour-management policy consistently.
Manage classes effectively using approaches suited to pupils’ needs.
Maintain high expectations for behaviour, independence and self-control.
Exercise appropriate authority and respond decisively to behavioural concerns.
Model the attitudes, values and conduct expected from students.
Participate in curriculum action groups and support team objectives.
Contribute to curriculum planning, assessment, resources and special events.
Support school events, educational visits and extracurricular activities.
Attend activities that may occasionally take place during evenings or weekends.
Lead one weekly extracurricular activity during each term.
Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
Complete assigned duties in accordance with school policies.
Maintain professional communication at every level.

Ideal Profile

Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies or a related subject.
PGCE or another recognised teaching qualification.
Minimum one to two years of relevant teaching experience.
Previous experience supporting students whose first language is not English.
Strong understanding of curriculum planning, teaching and assessment.
Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
Professional approach with careful consideration for student wellbeing.
Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.
Respect for every member of the school community.
Positive, collaborative and solution-focused attitude.
Ability to obtain a satisfactory enhanced DBS check or police clearance.
Commitment to safeguarding children and young people.
Available to commence employment in August 2026.
