Role Context
The Social Studies Teacher will help students develop an informed understanding of communities, culture, history, citizenship, and the wider world while supporting the academic expectations of Al Rayana Charter School. Lessons should connect curriculum content with meaningful learning experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, participation, and respect for the values of the region.
The teacher will take responsibility for the progress of an assigned class and use assessment information to refine planning, differentiation, and intervention. Close cooperation with colleagues, parents, curriculum support staff, and specialist professionals will be important in ensuring that every student receives appropriate challenge and support.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver engaging Social Studies lessons aligned with the school\'s curriculum requirements.
* Create learning experiences that encourage students to explore history, society, culture, citizenship, and community themes.
* Establish clear lesson objectives and maintain appropriate challenge across the full ability range.
* Organize classroom resources and displays to create a stimulating and purposeful learning environment.
* Apply imaginative teaching approaches that motivate students and sustain participation.
* Embed the school\'s Teacher and Learner DNA language and attitudes throughout classroom practice.
* Work alongside fellow teachers to coordinate planning and strengthen curriculum delivery.
* Collaborate flexibly with curriculum support staff to address individual student needs.
* Identify students requiring additional support and adapt instruction accordingly.
* Provide suitable challenge for higher-attaining learners.
* Support students for whom English is not their first language through appropriate teaching strategies.
* Observe and assess student learning in line with school procedures.
* Take responsibility for the academic progress of an assigned class.
* Record student development accurately using Target Tracker.
* Use assessment data to shape subsequent lesson planning, classroom provision, and targeted intervention.
* Review the impact of teaching and adjust curriculum delivery when progress indicates a different approach is required.
* Provide clear feedback to parents and carers during Parent Teacher Conferences and other meetings.
* Maintain constructive communication with families regarding achievement, progress, and student well-being.
* Meet with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and other specialists when required.
* Implement relevant recommendations from specialist professionals within classroom practice.
* Follow the school\'s behavior policy consistently.
* Manage classes using strategies suited to students\' developmental and individual needs.
* Maintain positive relationships with students while exercising appropriate authority when necessary.
* Promote self-control, independence, responsibility, and respectful behavior.
* Model the attitudes and values expected from students throughout the school day.
* Participate in curriculum action groups covering planning, assessment, resources, and special events.
* Assist with school events, educational outings, and community activities.
* Use CPOMS and other school processes appropriately when communicating or recording student welfare matters.
* Contribute positively to the wider ethos and daily life of Al Rayana Charter School.
* Lead a weekly extracurricular activity during each term.
* Complete additional professional duties in accordance with school policies and leadership direction.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should hold a bachelor\'s degree in Social Studies, Humanities, or another closely related subject together with a PGCE or equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
A minimum of 1-2 years of teaching experience is required. Previous experience delivering Social Studies or related humanities content in a primary or international school environment will be particularly relevant.
The successful candidate should understand how to teach across different ability levels, use assessment data purposefully, and adapt learning for students who require additional support or extension.
Experience working with students for whom English is not their first language will be valuable. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to educating the whole child and maintaining high standards of student welfare and professionalism.
