Role Context
The Student Counsellor - CBSE School will work closely with students, parents, teachers, school leaders, pastoral teams, and external professionals to promote wellbeing and student success. The role focuses on early identification of concerns, practical intervention planning, individual and group counselling, crisis support, safeguarding response, and preventive wellbeing programmes. By supporting resilience, self-awareness, emotional regulation, digital citizenship, positive relationships, and life skills, the counsellor will help students feel secure, understood, and ready to progress academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide individual and group counselling for students facing academic, emotional, behavioural, social, or adjustment-related challenges.
* Help students develop resilience, self-awareness, emotional regulation, confidence, positive decision-making, and healthy interpersonal skills.
* Identify students who require additional support and develop appropriate intervention plans in collaboration with relevant school teams.
* Work with teachers, parents, and school leaders to address student concerns, monitor progress, and provide practical guidance.
* Conduct classroom sessions and workshops on wellbeing, mental health awareness, bullying prevention, digital citizenship, stress management, and life skills.
* Support students during transitions, including new admissions, grade progression, peer adjustment, and career or higher education planning where applicable.
* Maintain confidential student records, counselling notes, reports, and case documentation in line with school policies and UAE regulations.
* Respond to safeguarding and child protection concerns by following school reporting procedures and supporting student safety.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to student support plans, behaviour plans, and wellbeing interventions.
* Refer students to external specialists or agencies when additional professional support is required and coordinate follow-up where appropriate.
* Promote a positive school culture through preventive counselling programmes, wellbeing initiatives, awareness campaigns, and student support activities.
* Assist with crisis intervention and provide appropriate emotional support during emergencies or critical incidents.
* Contribute to policy development and review related to student wellbeing, safeguarding, mental health, and counselling practice.
* Support teachers with strategies to manage student wellbeing concerns while respecting confidentiality and professional boundaries.
* Build trusted relationships with students and families from diverse cultural backgrounds through empathy, discretion, and clear communication.
Ideal Profile
* Master\'s degree in Psychology, Counselling, School Counselling, Clinical Psychology, or a related field is required.
* Professional counselling qualification or licence recognised in the UAE is preferred.
* Minimum 2 to 5 years of counselling experience, preferably within a CBSE or international school environment.
* Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development, learning needs, behavioural intervention strategies, and school-based wellbeing support.
* Familiarity with CBSE guidelines, Indian school environments, and student wellbeing practices is an advantage.
* Ability to provide counselling support with compassion, confidentiality, professional ethics, and sound judgment.
* Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, crisis response, student welfare, and appropriate referral procedures.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, listening, and conflict-resolution skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, school leaders, and external professionals.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records, reports, intervention plans, and confidential documentation.
* Proficiency in English is required.
* Knowledge of Hindi or other Indian languages is an advantage.
* Student-centred approach with patience, cultural sensitivity, resilience, and a commitment to inclusive education.
* UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police check will be required before appointment.
