Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver mathematics lessons aligned with the American Curriculum and agreed school learning outcomes.
* Teach number, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, statistics, and mathematical reasoning at the appropriate grade level.
* Create lessons that encourage students to investigate problems, explain methods, justify answers, and apply mathematical concepts.
* Adapt learning activities, questioning, resources, and support for students with different attainment and English-language levels.
* Use visual models, practical tasks, digital tools, and real-life examples to make mathematical concepts accessible.
* Establish clear lesson objectives, success criteria, routines, and expectations.
* Organise classroom resources and displays to maintain an engaging and purposeful learning environment.
* Take responsibility for the academic progress of assigned classes.
* Observe, assess, and record student development in line with school procedures.
* Use Target Tracker and assessment data to identify learning gaps, revise planning, and provide targeted intervention.
* Give clear and constructive feedback that helps students improve accuracy, reasoning, and independent problem-solving.
* Reflect on lesson effectiveness and adjust teaching approaches according to student outcomes.
* Provide additional guidance to students who require reinforcement or greater academic challenge.
* Communicate student achievement, progress, behaviour, and wellbeing to parents and carers.
* Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences and other progress-review meetings.
* Collaborate with mathematics teachers and curriculum teams on planning, assessment, moderation, and resource development.
* Work cooperatively with curriculum support staff to address individual learning needs.
* Liaise with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and other professionals where required.
* Embed the school\'s Teacher and Learner DNA language and attitudes within classroom practice.
* Apply the school behaviour policy fairly and consistently.
* Maintain positive relationships with students while exercising appropriate authority.
* Promote self-control, responsibility, independence, resilience, and respect among learners.
* Model the professional conduct, values, and positive attitudes expected across the school.
* Participate in curriculum action groups and support subject initiatives, assessments, resources, and special events.
* Record and communicate safeguarding or wellbeing concerns through CPOMS and other approved processes.
* Lead one weekly extracurricular activity during each school term.
* Support educational outings, competitions, events, and activities that may occasionally take place during evenings or weekends.
* Contribute actively to the wider ethos and continuous improvement of the school.
* Follow safeguarding, child-protection, health and safety, and professional conduct requirements.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
* PGCE or another recognised professional teaching qualification.
* Minimum 1-2 years of relevant classroom teaching experience.
* Previous experience teaching students for whom English is not their first language.
* Knowledge of middle school mathematics and American Curriculum expectations.
* Ability to teach mathematical concepts clearly across a varied ability range.
* Experience differentiating lessons for students with different academic and language needs.
* Competence in using assessment data to guide planning, support, and intervention.
* Strong classroom organisation and behaviour-management skills.
* Passion for mathematics education and commitment to developing the whole child.
* High professional standards and consistent consideration for student wellbeing.
* Recent and sustained participation in extracurricular or enrichment activities.
* Strong communication skills when working with students, parents, colleagues, and specialist professionals.
