Role Context

The Teacher - Drama will help students develop creativity, self-expression, confidence, teamwork, and communication through high-quality drama education. The role combines curriculum-based teaching with imaginative classroom practice, student assessment, data-informed planning, extracurricular involvement, and professional collaboration. By embedding the school’s learner and teacher values through drama activities and classroom routines, the teacher will support a sustainable and innovative learning community where students are encouraged to collaborate, lead, and create.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver Drama lessons that inspire students to participate, perform, think creatively, and achieve strong learning outcomes.
* Plan engaging curriculum-based sessions that support the full ability range within the class.
* Organize classroom provision, drama resources, learning displays, and performance spaces to create a positive and engaging environment.
* Use enthusiastic, imaginative, and inclusive teaching methods to motivate pupils and build confidence in creative expression.
* Support students in developing performance skills, voice control, movement, teamwork, storytelling, listening, and presentation ability.
* Work alongside fellow teachers to plan lessons, share resources, and align teaching with curriculum expectations.
* Observe and assess students in line with school assessment procedures and expected progress standards.
* Use Target Tracker to record student development, monitor progress, and support accurate assessment information.
* Apply assessment data to guide future planning, provision, interventions, and student support.
* Reflect on classroom provision, sessions taught, student progress, and learning outcomes, then adjust planning and delivery where required.
* Take responsibility for student progress and ensure each learner receives appropriate support and challenge.
* Work with parents and carers to support student happiness, wellbeing, creativity, and academic development.
* Provide feedback to parents and carers on student progress during parent teacher conferences and other meetings.
* Meet with professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, or inclusion teams when required.
* Work cooperatively with curriculum support staff to support children’s development and classroom inclusion.
* Embed Al Rayana Learner and Teacher DNA language, attitudes, collaboration, leadership, and creativity across the drama curriculum.
* Follow the school behaviour policy and manage classes using approaches that inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils.
* Build positive relationships with students while exercising appropriate authority within the school’s behaviour framework.
* Act as a positive role model by demonstrating the attitudes, values, behaviour, and professionalism expected from pupils.
* Promote high expectations for behaviour, self-control, independence, respect, collaboration, and creative risk-taking.
* Work as part of a curriculum action group, supporting planning, assessment, resources, and special events linked to that team.
* Support school performances, events, outings, activities, and community initiatives, including events that may take place in the evening or at weekends.
* Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student achievement and wellbeing using school systems such as CPOMS where appropriate.
* Make a positive contribution to the wider life, values, and ethos of the school.
* Run a weekly extracurricular activity each term to enrich student creativity beyond the classroom.
* Carry out duties as directed and follow school policies related to safeguarding, equality, professional conduct, and student welfare.

Ideal Profile

* Bachelor’s Degree in a related subject with PGCE or another recognized teaching qualification.
* Minimum 1-2 years of teaching experience.
* Previous Drama teaching experience in an American curriculum, primary school, or international school setting will be an advantage.
* Experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
* Clear understanding of curriculum planning, classroom teaching, student assessment, differentiated learning, and progress tracking.
* Able to create engaging drama lessons that support varied abilities, confidence levels, communication styles, and learning needs.
* Confident using Target Tracker and assessment data to guide planning, intervention, and student support.
* Strong classroom management skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and challenge students.
* Comfortable using drama techniques, role play, performance activities, movement, voice, and storytelling to improve student engagement.
* Passion for teaching and a strong commitment to educating the whole child.
* High level of professionalism with genuine care for student wellbeing, safety, and development.
* Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities, school performances, creative events, or wider school life.
* Respectful toward all members of the school community regardless of role, gender, age, nationality, or background.
* Positive, resilient, and solution-focused approach to working life.
* Strong communication skills with students, parents, carers, colleagues, and school leaders.
