Role Context
The Teacher - Music will contribute to a vibrant learning environment where students are encouraged to explore rhythm, melody, voice, instruments, movement, performance, and creative expression. The role combines structured music teaching with student assessment, classroom organization, data-informed planning, extracurricular activities, and collaboration with colleagues and parents. By embedding collaboration, leadership, creativity, and positive learner habits throughout music lessons, the teacher will help strengthen the school’s arts provision and support whole-child development in Abu Dhabi’s education sector.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver Music lessons that inspire students to participate, create, perform, listen, and achieve strong learning outcomes.
* Plan engaging curriculum-based sessions that meet the needs of the full ability range within the class.
* Organize music classroom provision, instruments, learning resources, displays, and activity areas to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
* Use enthusiastic, imaginative, and inclusive teaching methods to motivate pupils and build confidence in musical expression.
* Support students in developing rhythm, melody, singing, listening, performance, ensemble work, creativity, and appreciation of music.
* Work alongside fellow teachers to plan lessons, share resources, and align teaching with curriculum expectations.
* Liaise flexibly with colleagues and curriculum support staff to support student learning and development.
* Work with parents to support the happiness, wellbeing, and academic outcomes of all children.
* Observe and assess students in line with school assessment procedures and expected progress standards.
* Use Target Tracker to record student development, monitor progress, and support accurate assessment information.
* Apply assessment data to guide future planning, classroom provision, interventions, and student support.
* Reflect on classroom provision, sessions taught, student progress, and learning outcomes, then adjust planning and delivery where needed.
* Take responsibility for student progress and ensure learners receive appropriate support, challenge, and encouragement.
* Provide feedback to parents and carers on student achievement, progress, and wellbeing during parent teacher conferences and other meetings.
* Meet with professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, or inclusion teams when required.
* Embed Al Rayana Learner and Teacher DNA language, attitudes, collaboration, leadership, and creativity across music learning.
* Follow the school behaviour policy and manage classes using approaches that inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils.
* Maintain positive relationships with students while exercising appropriate authority within the school’s behaviour framework.
* Act as a positive role model by demonstrating the attitudes, values, behaviour, and professionalism expected from pupils.
* Promote high expectations for behaviour, self-control, independence, respect, teamwork, and creative confidence.
* Work as part of a curriculum action group, supporting planning, assessment, resources, and special events linked to that team.
* Support school performances, concerts, assemblies, events, outings, and activities, including those that may take place in the evening or at weekends.
* Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student achievement and wellbeing using school systems such as CPOMS where appropriate.
* Make a positive contribution to the wider life, values, and ethos of the school.
* Run a weekly extracurricular activity each term to enhance student opportunities beyond classroom music lessons.
* Carry out duties as directed and follow school policies related to safeguarding, equality, professional conduct, and student welfare.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s Degree in a related subject with PGCE or another recognized teaching qualification.
* Minimum 1-2 years of teaching experience.
* Previous Music teaching experience in an American curriculum, primary school, or international school setting will be an advantage.
* Experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
* Clear understanding of curriculum planning, classroom teaching, student assessment, differentiated learning, and progress tracking.
* Able to create engaging music lessons that support varied abilities, confidence levels, learning needs, and creative interests.
* Confident using Target Tracker and assessment data to guide planning, intervention, and student support.
* Strong classroom management skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and challenge students.
* Comfortable using singing, rhythm activities, instruments, listening tasks, movement, composition, and performance work to improve student engagement.
* Passion for teaching and a strong commitment to educating the whole child.
* High level of professionalism with genuine care for student wellbeing, safety, and development.
* Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities, school performances, music events, or wider school life.
* Respectful toward all members of the school community regardless of role, gender, age, nationality, or background.
* Positive, resilient, and solution-focused approach to working life.
* Strong communication skills with students, parents, carers, colleagues, and school leaders.
