Teacher - Secondary Science

provide continuity of high-quality Science education during a maternity cover period at Yasmina British Academy. The teacher will plan and deliver challenging lessons, assess student progress, respond to different learning needs, and maintain an environment where students are motivated to achieve ambitious academic goals.

Beyond subject delivery, the position contributes to the Academy\'s wider improvement priorities, safeguarding responsibilities, extracurricular life, parent engagement, and collaborative teaching culture. The teacher is expected to uphold high professional standards while supporting the academic and personal development of every student.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver well-structured Science lessons with clear learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
* Teach subject knowledge and scientific skills in line with the Academy\'s curriculum and programmes of study.
* Support students preparing for GCSE and A Level study where assigned.
* Create a classroom climate that encourages curiosity, participation, disciplined learning, and academic ambition.
* Set appropriately challenging tasks that sustain student interest and build on previous attainment.
* Use assessment evidence and performance data to adapt lesson planning to individual learning needs.
* Identify students requiring SEN support as well as highly able learners who need additional challenge.
* Differentiate teaching so students with varying abilities and language backgrounds can make meaningful progress.
* Maintain suitable lesson pace while balancing explanation, questioning, independent work, and practical learning.
* Use effective questioning to test understanding and address errors or scientific misconceptions.
* Select suitable resources and incorporate ICT and other learning technologies into teaching where beneficial.
* Help students develop the knowledge, skills, vocabulary, and understanding required for their stage of Science education.
* Make productive use of classroom time while maintaining high expectations for behavior, punctuality, homework, and quality of work.
* Mark and monitor student work consistently and establish clear targets for further progress.
* Keep systematic assessment records showing attainment, strengths, development needs, and completion of assigned work.
* Conduct assessments required by examination bodies, the Science department, and Academy procedures.
* Analyze assessment results to identify where teaching strategies or interventions should be adjusted.
* Prepare accurate and informative progress reports for parents.
* Participate in Parent Teacher Consultations and maintain constructive communication about student development.
* Critically evaluate personal teaching practice and use evidence to improve classroom effectiveness.
* Contribute to departmental planning, resource sharing, curriculum development, and agreed improvement priorities.
* Support the Academy\'s strategic objectives, improvement plan, and self-evaluation activities.
* Participate in staff briefings, professional development, performance management, and required training.
* Complete annual safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety training.
* Follow Academy requirements for safe working practices and equal opportunities.
* Maintain a high standard of student welfare and safeguarding in all professional activity.
* Collaborate with teaching colleagues to make effective use of departmental and Academy resources.
* Participate in meetings and management processes required for effective school coordination.
* Contribute to extracurricular activities and the wider educational experience available to students.
* Support Open Evenings, parent events, liaison activities, and initiatives involving partner academies.
* Encourage every student to work toward their individual potential while maintaining consistently high expectations.

Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a bachelor\'s degree in Education or another relevant academic discipline together with a recognized teaching qualification.

A minimum of two years of teaching experience is required. Experience teaching Science as a specialist subject up to GCSE and A Level is desirable, particularly within an English Curriculum or comparable secondary school environment.

Previous experience supporting students for whom English is not their first language will be valuable. Teachers should be confident differentiating lessons without lowering academic expectations and should understand how assessment information can be converted into targeted classroom action.

The position requires a genuine commitment to educating the whole child, strong professional judgment, and careful consideration of student well-being. Recent and consistent participation in extracurricular activities is also expected.
