Design Director – Opera House Project
Azizi Developments is hiring an experienced Design Director to lead the iconic Azizi Opera project at Azizi Venice, a AED 30 billion mixed-use development located in Dubai South. This landmark cultural venue is envisioned to host world-class performances and attract over 30,000 daily visitors. We are seeking a visionary professional with specialized experience in designing opera houses or similar performing arts venues.

What Does a Design Director Do at Azizi Opera?
As Design Director, you will lead multidisciplinary teams from feasibility through to construction documentation. Your role involves defining the vision and operational requirements of the opera house while ensuring design excellence, technical accuracy, stakeholder coordination, and adherence to regulatory and budgetary frameworks.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Develop the full operating and design manual for the opera house, drawing from international best practices
- Lead design and engineering professionals across all design phases – feasibility, concept, schematic, DD, and IFC
- Define and update the design brief, ensuring performance, acoustics, and visitor experience are prioritized
- Coordinate all internal and external design disciplines (architecture, acoustics, structure, MEP, AV, interiors, etc.)
- Liaise with contractors, consultants, authorities, and site supervision teams for timely project support
- Ensure project documentation meets Azizi quality standards and international norms for public venues
- Analyze project design from a cost, buildability, operations, and sustainability standpoint
- Support tendering processes and contract executions in collaboration with the Head of Design Management
- Use tools such as PROCORE, ACONEX, and PLANGRID for document control and project management
- Maintain compliance with Dubai authority regulations and continuously update internal practice guidelines
What Skills and Experience Are Required?
Education and Background:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Design
- In-depth experience in designing cultural facilities, opera houses, or large-scale performing arts venues
Experience:
- Minimum 15+ years of architecture/design leadership with at least one opera house or high-profile arts facility completed
- Demonstrated success delivering large mixed-use real estate projects from pre-concept to construction
Skills:
- Deep understanding of design integration for performance venues including stage equipment, acoustics, and crowd flow
- Strong command of regional and international codes, standards, and permitting requirements
- Skilled in negotiating and managing large design and consultant teams
- Proficient with construction coordination platforms like PROCORE, ACONEX, or PLANGRID
- Exceptional stakeholder management and presentation capabilities
- Strategic mindset with a focus on constructability, sustainability, and future-proofing
