Role Context
The Anthropology Quality Assurance Lead will oversee the quality of anthropological content used to train and evaluate advanced artificial intelligence systems. Assignments may include reviewing cultural explanations, ethnographic summaries, theoretical comparisons, archaeological interpretations, discussions of identity and kinship, and responses involving human variation, language, belief, material culture, and social organization.
The successful candidate will identify cultural misrepresentation, ethnocentric assumptions, inaccurate terminology, unsupported generalizations, weak methodological reasoning, stereotyping, and ethically problematic analysis. The role also includes contributor coaching, onboarding, calibration, documentation management, and continuous improvement of anthropology-focused quality workflows.
Key Responsibilities
* Review anthropology AI training items against detailed project rubrics and documented quality requirements.
* Evaluate anthropological accuracy, cultural context, theory application, methodological rigor, clarity, terminology, and instruction compliance.
* Assess content involving culture, kinship, identity, belief systems, ritual, language, migration, material culture, social organization, and human adaptation.
* Review ethnographic summaries for appropriate context, evidence, reflexivity, and respectful representation.
* Examine applications of anthropological theories and determine whether concepts are used accurately.
* Identify ethnocentric framing, stereotyping, cultural essentialism, unsupported claims, and misleading comparisons.
* Flag language that stigmatizes, exoticizes, oversimplifies, or misrepresents communities and traditions.
* Assess whether AI-generated content distinguishes documented evidence from interpretation or speculation.
* Review qualitative research methods, fieldwork descriptions, interview findings, participant observation, and comparative analysis.
* Evaluate discussions involving archaeological evidence, biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology, or cultural heritage when required.
* Check terminology for precision, consistency, historical context, and disciplinary appropriateness.
* Spot-check submissions completed by trainers, researchers, annotators, reviewers, and QA contributors.
* Provide detailed written feedback explaining each issue and the corrective action required.
* Escalate recurring, critical, culturally harmful, or ethically sensitive quality concerns.
* Communicate updated guidelines, workflow changes, and anthropology-specific review standards through Discord and other collaboration tools.
* Answer contributor questions concerning theory, ethnography, cultural context, methods, ethics, terminology, and rubric interpretation.
* Contact inactive trainers and QAs, encourage participation, document follow-ups, and flag availability concerns.
* Create and maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, quality notes, reference examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
* Conduct remote onboarding and training sessions for anthropology trainers and reviewers.
* Ensure contributors apply evolving anthropology review standards consistently.
* Analyze recurring quality gaps and propose practical improvements to review processes.
* Maintain accurate records of quality findings, contributor feedback, performance patterns, and corrective actions.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s, Master\'s, or PhD degree in Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Social Anthropology, Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, Human Geography, Sociology, or a closely related discipline.
* Minimum 3 years of experience in anthropology research, teaching, ethnographic work, academic writing, fieldwork, cultural analysis, or social science review.
* Strong English communication skills for interpreting project guidelines and delivering clear written feedback.
* Thorough understanding of anthropological theory, ethnographic methods, cultural comparison, and ethical research practice.
* Knowledge of cultural anthropology, social anthropology, archaeology, biological anthropology, or linguistic anthropology.
* Ability to identify stereotyping, ethnocentrism, cultural bias, unsupported generalization, and inaccurate representation.
* Familiarity with participant observation, interviews, field notes, comparative methods, archival research, or qualitative analysis.
* Understanding of research ethics, informed consent, community representation, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
* Ability to evaluate complex content objectively against detailed rubrics and project standards.
* Strong attention to terminology, context, evidence quality, and interpretive nuance.
* Experience leading or supporting remote researchers, educators, writers, reviewers, annotators, or QA teams is strongly preferred.
* Confidence using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems.
* Experience creating style guides, calibration tasks, onboarding resources, FAQs, or quality documentation is beneficial.
* Familiarity with AI training, data annotation, large language model evaluation, academic QA, or rubric-based review is advantageous.
* Availability to complete an AI interview, a domain-specific task, and a recruiter interview.
* Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving remote environment.
