Role Context
The Mathematics Quality Assurance Lead will oversee the reliability of mathematical content used to train and evaluate advanced artificial intelligence systems. Assignments may include reviewing numerical solutions, formal proofs, symbolic manipulations, derivations, word problems, statistical reasoning, and step-by-step explanations.
The successful candidate will identify calculation errors, invalid deductions, missing proof steps, inconsistent notation, unsupported assumptions, and misleading explanations. The role also includes contributor coaching, onboarding, calibration, documentation management, and continuous improvement of scalable mathematics review workflows.
Key Responsibilities
* Review mathematics AI training items against detailed project rubrics and quality standards.
* Evaluate mathematical accuracy, logical reasoning, calculation correctness, notation, clarity, formatting, and instruction compliance.
* Check equations, derivations, assumptions, intermediate steps, and final answers.
* Assess formal and informal proofs for validity, completeness, and logical structure.
* Identify arithmetic mistakes, algebraic errors, invalid transformations, and unsupported conclusions.
* Review content involving algebra, calculus, geometry, probability, statistics, and discrete mathematics.
* Evaluate advanced topics such as linear algebra, number theory, differential equations, optimization, and mathematical modeling.
* Verify that variables, symbols, definitions, units, and notation are used consistently.
* Identify hidden assumptions, circular reasoning, omitted cases, and incomplete explanations.
* Compare alternative solution methods and determine whether each approach is valid and efficient.
* Review AI-generated explanations for educational clarity without sacrificing mathematical rigor.
* Spot-check work completed by trainers, educators, researchers, annotators, reviewers, and QA contributors.
* Provide precise written feedback explaining each mathematical issue and the required correction.
* Escalate recurring, critical, or high-impact quality concerns to project stakeholders.
* Communicate updated guidelines, workflow changes, and mathematics-specific review expectations through Discord.
* Respond to contributor questions involving calculations, proofs, notation, assumptions, methods, and rubric interpretation.
* Contact inactive trainers and QAs, encourage participation, document follow-ups, and report availability concerns.
* Create and maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, quality notes, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
* Conduct remote onboarding and training sessions for mathematics trainers and reviewers.
* Ensure contributors apply evolving mathematics quality standards consistently.
* Analyze recurring quality gaps and recommend practical improvements to review workflows.
* Maintain accurate records of evaluations, feedback, contributor performance, and corrective actions.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s, Master\'s, PhD, or equivalent professional background in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematical Sciences, Education, Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
* Professional experience in mathematics research, teaching, academic writing, assessment, tutoring, technical review, or quality assurance.
* Strong English communication skills for interpreting detailed guidelines and delivering clear written feedback.
* Thorough understanding of mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, proof construction, and notation.
* Ability to review calculations, derivations, assumptions, and conclusions accurately.
* Strong knowledge across several areas of pure or applied mathematics.
* Ability to identify invalid logic, missing proof steps, computational errors, and unclear explanations.
* Experience preparing or reviewing examinations, problem sets, textbooks, academic materials, or technical solutions is preferred.
* Strong attention to symbolic detail, mathematical structure, consistency, and educational clarity.
* Experience leading or supporting educators, researchers, trainers, annotators, reviewers, or QA teams is strongly preferred.
* Ability to apply detailed rubrics consistently across high-volume mathematics review assignments.
* Confidence using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems.
* Experience developing calibration tasks, onboarding resources, FAQs, style guides, and quality documentation is beneficial.
* Familiarity with AI training, data annotation, large language model evaluation, mathematics QA, or rubric-based review is advantageous.
* Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving remote environment.
