Role Context
The Physics Quality Assurance Lead will oversee the reliability of scientific content used to train and evaluate advanced artificial intelligence systems. Assignments may include reviewing numerical solutions, mathematical derivations, physical explanations, experimental setups, scientific diagrams, simulations, and step-by-step reasoning.
The successful candidate will identify incorrect assumptions, inappropriate formulas, unit errors, sign convention mistakes, unsupported conclusions, and physically impossible claims. The role also includes contributor coaching, onboarding, documentation management, calibration, and continuous improvement of scalable physics review workflows.
Key Responsibilities
* Review physics AI training items against detailed project rubrics and scientific quality standards.
* Evaluate scientific accuracy, physical reasoning, calculation correctness, clarity, formatting, and instruction compliance.
* Check equations, formulas, assumptions, units, constants, intermediate steps, and final answers.
* Assess content involving classical mechanics, electromagnetism, waves, optics, thermodynamics, and statistical mechanics.
* Review explanations and calculations involving quantum mechanics, relativity, applied physics, and mathematical modeling.
* Identify incorrect formulas, invalid assumptions, dimensional inconsistencies, and unsupported conclusions.
* Detect sign convention errors, incorrect boundary conditions, coordinate-system mistakes, and missing cases.
* Verify that mathematical derivations follow logically from the stated principles and assumptions.
* Review scientific diagrams, force representations, circuit descriptions, field models, and experimental configurations.
* Evaluate laboratory interpretations for correct use of controls, measurements, uncertainty, and data analysis.
* Identify physically impossible scenarios, misleading simplifications, and poorly contextualized scientific claims.
* Assess whether AI-generated explanations distinguish idealized models from real-world limitations.
* Review numerical methods, simulations, scientific visualizations, and computational physics examples when required.
* Spot-check work completed by educators, researchers, trainers, annotators, science writers, reviewers, and QA contributors.
* Provide precise written feedback explaining each scientific issue and the correction required.
* Escalate recurring, critical, numerically significant, or safety-sensitive quality concerns.
* Communicate updated guidelines, workflow changes, and physics-specific expectations through Discord.
* Respond to contributor questions involving assumptions, formulas, units, derivations, experiments, diagrams, and rubric interpretation.
* Contact inactive trainers and QAs, encourage participation, document follow-ups, and report availability concerns.
* Create and maintain physics style guides, FAQs, trackers, quality notes, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
* Conduct remote onboarding and training sessions for physics trainers and reviewers.
* Ensure contributors apply evolving physics quality standards consistently.
* Analyze recurring quality failures and recommend practical improvements to review workflows.
* Maintain accurate records of evaluations, feedback, contributor performance, and corrective actions.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s, Master\'s, or PhD degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Astrophysics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative field.
* Minimum 3 years of professional experience in physics research, teaching, tutoring, laboratory work, science writing, academic review, engineering analysis, or related scientific work.
* Strong English communication skills for interpreting detailed guidelines and delivering clear technical feedback.
* Thorough understanding of classical mechanics, electromagnetism, waves, optics, and thermodynamics.
* Strong knowledge of statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, relativity, dimensional analysis, and mathematical modeling.
* Ability to identify incorrect assumptions, formula errors, unit mistakes, flawed reasoning, and physically impossible conclusions.
* Experience reviewing derivations, calculations, experiments, diagrams, simulations, or scientific reports.
* Strong understanding of measurement uncertainty, experimental controls, data interpretation, and scientific limitations.
* Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, Mathematica, LaTeX, numerical methods, or scientific visualization is preferred.
* Ability to review equations, notation, units, constants, and physical interpretations accurately.
* Experience leading or supporting educators, researchers, reviewers, annotators, science writers, or QA teams is strongly preferred.
* Excellent attention to numerical detail, physical plausibility, terminology, and documentation.
* Confidence using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems.
* Experience creating style guides, calibration tasks, onboarding materials, FAQs, and quality documentation is beneficial.
* Familiarity with AI training, data annotation, large language model evaluation, scientific QA, or rubric-based review is advantageous.
* Availability to complete an AI interview, a domain-specific task, and a recruiter interview.
* Comfortable working independently within a fast-moving remote environment.
