Role Context

The Special Education Needs Teacher will deliver engaging


and inclusive lessons that support students in achieving the best possible academic, social, emotional, and personal outcomes. The role includes planning differentiated learning, assessing student progress, working with parents and specialists, using Target Tracker, supporting students for whom English is not their first language, and contributing to wider school activities. The successful candidate will help create a nurturing, respectful, and achievement-focused learning environment at Al Ghad Charter School in Abu Dhabi.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver inspiring lessons that help students achieve strong academic and personal development outcomes.
* Demonstrate a clear understanding of the curriculum and apply it effectively to meet learning objectives.
* Plan, prepare, and present sessions that meet the needs of students across the full ability range.
* Use appropriate teaching strategies, learning resources, and classroom provision to support inclusive learning.
* Organize classroom resources, displays, and learning areas to create a positive and engaging environment.
* Motivate pupils through enthusiastic, imaginative, and student-centred teaching.
* Support students with additional learning needs through differentiated instruction and targeted support.
* Observe and assess children in line with school assessment procedures.
* Take responsibility for the progress, achievement, and wellbeing of assigned students.
* Use Target Tracker and assessment data to influence planning, provision, and intervention.
* Reflect on classroom provision, lessons delivered, student progress, and learning outcomes to improve practice.
* Adjust planning, curriculum delivery, resources, and classroom environment based on student needs.
* Work with professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists when required.
* Embed the school’s teacher and learner values, language, and positive attitudes throughout the curriculum.
* Work alongside fellow teachers to plan engaging lessons that meet curriculum requirements.
* Liaise with colleagues and work flexibly to support student learning and wider school priorities.
* Work cooperatively with curriculum support staff where applicable to support children’s development.
* Build positive relationships with all members of the school community.
* Work with parents and caretakers to support students’ happiness, wellbeing, and academic outcomes.
* Provide feedback to parents and caretakers on student progress during parent teacher conferences and other meetings.
* Follow the school’s behaviour policy and maintain high expectations for student conduct.
* Manage classes effectively using approaches appropriate to students’ needs.
* Maintain good relationships with pupils while exercising appropriate authority within school policy.
* Promote self-control, independence, confidence, respect, and positive behaviour among all learners.
* Act as a positive role model by demonstrating the values, attitudes, and behaviour expected of pupils.
* Work as part of a curriculum action group, supporting planning, assessment, resources, and special events.
* Support school events, outings, activities, and enrichment opportunities, including occasional evening or weekend activities.
* Communicate student achievements and wellbeing through school systems and processes such as CPOMS where appropriate.
* Run a weekly extracurricular activity each term.
* Make a positive contribution to the wider life, values, and ethos of the school.
* Uphold safeguarding, child protection, professional conduct, and school policy expectations at all times.

Ideal Profile

* Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related subject.
* PGCE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
* Minimum 1-2 years of teaching experience.
* Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
* Experience supporting students with SEN, additional learning needs, inclusion requirements, or differentiated learning plans is preferred.
* Strong understanding of inclusive teaching, classroom assessment, behaviour management, and student progress tracking.
* Ability to plan and deliver lessons that support academic, social, emotional, and personal development.
* Passion for teaching and a clear commitment to educating the whole child.
* High level of professionalism with strong consideration for student wellbeing and safeguarding.
* Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.
* Respect for all members of the school community, regardless of position, gender, age, or background.
* Positive and solution-focused attitude to working life.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, caretakers, colleagues, and specialists.
* Reflective teaching practice with a commitment to continuous improvement.
