Job Overview
The Welding Engineer will lead all welding-related engineering functions, including qualification of welding procedures, performance monitoring, and quality compliance. This role is pivotal to ensuring project delivery excellence through effective welding strategies, root cause analysis, and adherence to international codes and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead development and qualification of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder performance qualifications
* Monitor welding and NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) metrics and report key performance indicators to management
* Act as the main point of contact for welding QA/QC and NDE activities throughout the project lifecycle
* Conduct root cause analysis on recurring welding issues and drive corrective/preventive action plans
* Support internal welding audits, repair rate tracking, and quality documentation traceability
* Ensure compliance with standards such as AWS D1.1, ISO 15614, ASME Sec IX, API 1104, and client-specific requirements
* Collaborate with QA/QC, construction, and client teams to address non-conformances and improve welding performance
* Provide technical input on metallurgical concerns, fabrication challenges, and design reviews
* Contribute to welding plan creation, weld mapping, and compliance documentation for audit readiness
Job Requirements
Education:
* Bachelor’s degree in Welding, Mechanical, or Metallurgical Engineering
Experience:
* Minimum 10–12 years of experience in welding engineering within Oil & Gas, shipbuilding, or EPC environments
* Strong background in both offshore and onshore construction projects
Certifications (Required):
* IWE (International Welding Engineer) or EWE (European Welding Engineer)
Certifications (Preferred):
* CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2.2
* ASNT/PCN NDT Level II (RT, UT, PT, MT, AUT)
* ASQ-CQI Lead Auditor (ISO 9001:2015)
Language:
* Fluency in English is mandatory
* Arabic is a plus
Skills:
* Deep understanding of welding QA/QC, metallurgy, and industry codes
* Hands-on experience with procedure development, audits, and NDE interpretation
* Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
* Proficiency in reviewing technical queries and managing documentation workflows
