Role Context
The ITS Engineer will work across both roadside equipment and central traffic-management platforms, helping ensure that individual technologies operate as an integrated transportation system rather than isolated components. The role will connect design, civil infrastructure, communications, electrical systems, traffic signals, cybersecurity considerations, software interfaces, field installation, testing, and Traffic Control Center operations. Accurate technical reviews and disciplined integration oversight will help reduce installation conflicts, improve system reliability, and support scalable ITS deployment throughout Riyadh.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and review ITS technical specifications, design criteria, drawings, equipment schedules, and system requirements.
* Assess consultant and contractor designs for compliance with approved architecture, project specifications, standards, constructability, and operational requirements.
* Support design and deployment of CCTV, radar, vehicle detection, video analytics, DMS, VMS, environmental monitoring, traveler information, and other ITS applications.
* Review communications, field cabinet, power supply, grounding, environmental protection, and supporting infrastructure requirements.
* Examine system architecture documents, interface-control information, network diagrams, device layouts, equipment schedules, and power requirements.
* Participate in site surveys to verify existing infrastructure, communications availability, utilities, power, cabinet capacity, equipment visibility, access, and constructability.
* Identify technical constraints before installation and coordinate practical engineering solutions with relevant disciplines.
* Prepare clear technical comments, design review matrices, site observations, engineering recommendations, and compliance records.
* Monitor field construction and installation of ITS equipment against approved drawings and manufacturer requirements.
* Inspect equipment mounting, positioning, cabling, containment, cabinets, power interfaces, communications connections, and associated infrastructure.
* Coordinate interfaces between roadside ITS equipment and traffic signal systems.
* Support integration of field devices with fiber and IP-based communications networks.
* Coordinate ITS interfaces with ATMS, iNET, TCC platforms, external systems, and approved stakeholder applications.
* Review shop drawings, material submittals, Method Statements, installation details, and technical data sheets.
* Review contractor testing procedures, commissioning plans, interface test documentation, and acceptance criteria.
* Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests for ITS equipment and systems where required.
* Witness Site Acceptance Tests and verify installed equipment against functional and technical requirements.
* Support subsystem testing, end-to-end communications testing, integration testing, and operational readiness verification.
* Coordinate testing between devices, communications networks, central applications, and control-room systems.
* Identify system integration failures and support technical troubleshooting during construction and commissioning.

* Coordinate with electrical teams on power supply, grounding, surge protection, and equipment energization.
* Work with communications specialists on fiber-optic systems, Ethernet-IP networks, switching, connectivity, and field communications.
* Coordinate with cybersecurity specialists regarding applicable network security, access, and system protection requirements.
* Support Traffic Control Center personnel during testing, commissioning, training, and early operational use.
* Review technical deviations, non-conformances, and corrective actions related to ITS installations.
* Monitor closure of technical observations and system deficiencies before final acceptance.
* Support deployment of scalable and interoperable solutions rather than technology-specific isolated systems.
* Evaluate emerging ITS technologies and identify practical applications appropriate for Riyadh\'s transportation network.

Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
* Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in ITS design, technical specification development, design review, construction support, integration, testing, or commissioning.
* Strong experience with roadside ITS technologies such as CCTV, detection, DMS-VMS, communications equipment, field cabinets, and power systems.
* Practical understanding of Intelligent Transportation Systems within urban road and Traffic Control Center environments.
* Experience reviewing technical specifications, design drawings, shop drawings, material submissions, Method Statements, and testing documentation.
* Working knowledge of fiber-optic communications, Ethernet-IP networks, field communications, cabinets, grounding, and power distribution.
* Understanding of ITS system architecture, interfaces, communications protocols, data exchange, and central traffic-management systems.
