Role Context
The CAD Operator will provide detailed drafting
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and revise CAD drawings for overhead transmission lines, underground transmission routes, distribution networks, substations, duct banks, manholes, vaults, and associated civil works.
* Develop plan drawings, profile drawings, sections, details, schematic drawings, layouts, grounding plans, conduit plans, cable routing drawings, and site work drawings.
* Convert engineer markups, designer sketches, redlines, survey inputs, field notes, and conceptual sketches into accurate construction-ready drawings.
* Create and maintain CAD templates, title blocks, standard details, symbols, drawing references, and drafting libraries.
* Apply company drafting procedures, client CAD standards, naming conventions, utility requirements, and applicable drawing control practices.
* Check drawings for accuracy, consistency, completeness, dimensions, layering, references, titles, notes, and revision status before submission.
* Incorporate comments, review markups, quality review feedback, and technical revisions accurately and within required timelines.
* Support the maintenance of standard drawing sets, typical details, and best-practice libraries for power utility projects.
* Organize and manage CAD files with correct version control, naming rules, file storage, and traceability within document management systems.
* Prepare drawing lists, indexes, registers, transmittal inputs, and submission package records.
* Produce and package drawing sets for design submissions, permit applications, construction issue packages, review cycles, and as-built documentation.
* Assist in preparing as-built drawings using field redlines, contractor updates, survey information, inspection records, and approved revisions.
* Coordinate with engineers, designers, project managers, and field staff to collect information and resolve drafting-related issues.
* Attend design coordination meetings when required and provide input on drawing requirements, drafting constraints, and document readiness.
* Work with civil, structural, electrical, and utility teams to support integrated, coordinated, and clash-aware drawing outputs.
* Support external coordination with clients, utility owners, contractors, and stakeholders regarding drawing formats, drafting standards, and submission requirements when directed.
* Maintain organized CAD records, drawing histories, revision logs, and project drafting files.
* Follow project quality expectations and help ensure drawing deliverables support safe, efficient, and compliant utility construction.
Ideal Profile
* High school diploma or equivalent is required.
* Certificate or diploma in drafting, CAD technology, engineering technology, or a related discipline is preferred.
* Equivalent practical drafting experience may be considered.
* Minimum 6 years of CAD drafting experience.
* Experience in power utilities, electrical infrastructure, transmission and distribution projects, substations, underground utilities, or related infrastructure fields is preferred.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software used for engineering and construction drawings.
* Strong ability to prepare detailed drawings from sketches, markups, redlines, design information, and field data.
* Familiarity with utility drafting standards, CAD layering, drawing numbering, title blocks, revision control, and document naming conventions.
* Basic understanding of power utility infrastructure such as overhead lines, underground cables, substations, duct banks, manholes, vaults, grounding, cable routing, and civil site works.
* Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical notes, specifications, and design instructions.
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-check drawings for accuracy and completeness.
* Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple drawing tasks, revisions, and submission deadlines.
* Able to work collaboratively with engineers, designers, project managers, document controllers, and field teams.
* Proficient with standard office software and document management processes.
