Dependable telecommunications systems are essential for coordinating people, operations, maintenance, and emergency activities across energy facilities. Equipment failure or poor network performance can interrupt communication and affect operational response.
Working under the direction of the Telecom Engineer, the technician will maintain field equipment, identify emerging failures, and restore affected services promptly. Accurate records, calibrated test instruments, and safe work practices will support long-term system availability.
Key Responsibilities
The role will combine field maintenance, network monitoring, installation support, troubleshooting, contractor supervision, and workshop repair.
* Perform daily routine and preventive maintenance on telecommunications equipment.
* Respond to corrective-maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns.
* Complete assigned work orders within established response times.
* Follow Standard Operating Procedures and approved safe-working practices.
* Obtain required work permits and certificates before starting maintenance activities.
* Comply with company HSE regulations during routine and non-routine tasks.
* Inspect telecommunications installations across assigned sites and operational areas.
* Assess equipment serviceability and identify faults requiring corrective action.
* Verify that test equipment and measuring devices are calibrated and hold valid certification.
* Monitor telecommunications network performance through Network Management Systems software.
* Identify failure conditions and report them promptly to the Telecom Engineer.
* Support troubleshooting and restoration of affected network services.
* Install new equipment and complete approved system modifications.
* Follow authorized plans, drawings, and Telecom Engineer instructions during installation work.
* Supervise external contractor activities when assigned.
* Cooperate with instrumentation and other technical disciplines during complex fault investigations.
* Coordinate maintenance and troubleshooting with external service providers and agencies.
* Repair and test telecommunications equipment modules in a workshop environment.
* Update maintenance records, technical databases, and work histories accurately.
* Record completed work in the Maintenance Management System.
* Revise redline and as-built drawings following approved equipment modifications.
* Maintain tools, test devices, and assigned work areas in serviceable condition.
Ideal Profile
Applicants should hold a relevant technical diploma or a secondary-school certificate supported by an appropriate vocational trade qualification.
A minimum of four years of practical telecommunications maintenance experience is required. Previous work within the oil and gas industry would be advantageous.
The successful candidate should understand field telecommunications equipment, Network Management Systems, test instruments, fault diagnosis, preventive maintenance, and workshop repair. The role also requires safe permit-to-work practices, accurate technical documentation, and effective coordination with engineers, contractors, maintenance teams, and external agencies.
