About the Role
The Aquarist is responsible for helping maintain healthy and sanitary living conditions, appropriate nutrition and consistent care for marine and freshwater animals. Daily responsibilities extend from animal observations and
scheduled feedings to exhibit maintenance, water quality monitoring and accurate departmental records.
The position also has a guest-facing educational element, requiring the ability to share marine-life knowledge enthusiastically and create meaningful experiences through presentations and interactions.
Animal Care and Husbandry
* Make daily animal observations and immediately report abnormalities or changes in normal behavior to management.
* Follow appropriate husbandry techniques to support optimal animal health and welfare.
* Prepare food according to established dietary programmes and maintain accurate feeding records.
* Perform scheduled topside and underwater feedings.
* Support quarantine procedures and animal welfare practices.
* Conduct water quality analysis and maintain associated records.
* Assist with animal acquisitions, dispositions and the receipt of local and imported animal collections.
* Develop animal husbandry knowledge through structured participation, observation and available learning resources.
Aquarium and Dive Operations
* Maintain aquarium exhibits and cultures according to routine and preventive maintenance programmes.
* Keep working environments safe, clean, hygienic and organized.
* Perform routine and preventive maintenance on dive and exhibit equipment within assigned areas.
* Maintain food preparation and storage areas to the required cleanliness standards.
* Maintain the physical condition necessary to perform the duties of the position safely.
* Follow departmental standard operating procedures and manuals.
* Remain available for reasonable shift requirements associated with receiving, caring for and observing animals, regardless of time, day or location.
Education and Guest Interaction
You will conduct marine educational programmes for guests, sharing detailed knowledge of marine life and relevant operations in an engaging and professional manner.
The role also involves researching, preparing and delivering structured educational presentations for colleagues and guests when required.
About You
PADI Rescue Scuba Certification or an equivalent qualification is required. Candidates must have at least two years of aquarium experience or equivalent experience within a relevant field or facility.
A bachelor\'s degree, preferably in Biology, Zoology, Marine Science or a related discipline, is desirable. You should have a basic understanding of animal husbandry, basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Clear professional communication and proficiency in written and spoken English are required. You should be able to work both independently and collaboratively while communicating enthusiastically with guests during programmes and interactions.
Basic animal record-keeping skills are expected. Experience with online animal tracking systems such as OERCA or ZIMS is desirable.
