New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking a Research Assistant to join the Computational Solid Mechanics Lab under the supervision of Professor Mostafa Mobasher. This role involves cutting-edge research on machine-learning-powered digital twin systems for civil engineering structures. The position is part of an interdisciplinary project co-supervised by Professor Tarek Abdoun and Professor Borja Garcia de Soto, focusing on structural and geotechnical modeling, machine learning, structural sensing, and computational model validation.

- Conduct research on machine-learning-based digital twins for structural and geotechnical systems.
- Develop computational models for structural performance using commercial and research software.
- Implement and validate neural network models for structural response prediction.
- Perform physical experimental testing in structural and geotechnical applications.
- Acquire and process data from monitoring systems for structural health assessment.
- Validate modeling results against experimental and monitoring data.
- Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and industrial partners on multidisciplinary projects.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Research experience in structural modeling and machine learning development.
- Proficiency in computational modeling tools and software.
- Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or relevant machine learning frameworks.
- Knowledge of data acquisition and signal processing techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in geotechnical engineering applications.
- Expertise in deep learning and neural network model development.
- Hands-on experience with experimental structural testing and validation techniques.
- Prior experience with real-world data applications in civil and urban engineering.
