New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking a Research Instrumentation Specialist to support marine fieldwork within the Core Technology Platforms (CTP). This position plays a key role in facilitating marine research activities, managing research vessels, ensuring diving safety, and maintaining essential field equipment.

Responsibilities
- Operate and manage NYUAD research vessels, ensuring safe navigation, deployment of divers, and compliance with operational regulations.
- Maintain research vessel logs, coordinate maintenance schedules, and oversee annual inspections and license renewals.
- Function as the Diving Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with NYUAD’s Dive Safety Manual and managing dive plans, logs, and safety training.
- Provide fieldwork support for researchers conducting marine and environmental studies, assisting with logistics, equipment setup, and on-site data collection.
- Conduct training sessions for First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and in-water rescue techniques.
- Maintain, service, and clean SCUBA diving equipment, ensuring all gear meets safety standards.
- Operate and maintain breathing air compressors, conduct air quality checks, and manage filter replacements.
Job Requirements
- At least three years of relevant experience in marine fieldwork, SCUBA diving, and research vessel operations.
- Certification as a powerboat operator (e.g., RYA Level 2 or equivalent).
- Instructor-level SCUBA certification from a recognized organization.
- Experience teaching Emergency First Response and Emergency Oxygen provider courses.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills to maintain records, coordinate logistics, and oversee safety compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- AAUS scientific diver certification.
- Training in breathing air compressor operation and SCUBA equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with UAE waters and local marine research sites.
- Valid UAE driver’s license.
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing maintenance schedules for diving and marine research equipment.
- Knowledge of dive logging software and research vessel operations.
- Experience leading field-based marine research projects.
- Technical diving qualifications, including experience with closed-circuit rebreathers.
