Staff Nurse - Medical Surgical Unit

Key Responsibilities

- Provide age-specific patient-centered care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation
- Conduct patient assessments using appropriate techniques and recognize subtle cues to anticipate potential complications
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and effective patient care
- Involve patients, families, and healthcare providers in care planning and treatment decisions
- Document all relevant patient data accurately and promptly in medical records following hospital standards
- Ensure the availability and proper maintenance of medical equipment and supplies required for patient care
- Administer medications, including controlled drugs, while adhering to hospital policies and safety protocols
- Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, ensuring adherence to infection control and safety regulations
- Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives, data collection, and incident reporting to enhance patient care outcomes
- Stay updated with the latest research and nursing standards to maintain clinical and professional competency
- Complete all mandatory hospital education requirements, including safety, fire, infection control, and other compliance training
- Engage in staff meetings, unit projects, and educational activities to support team development and hospital goals
- Assist with unit-specific competencies such as pain management and the use of medical devices

Required Skills and Experience

- Minimum of two years of post-graduate experience in a medical-surgical specialty
- Private hospital experience is preferred
- Strong knowledge of patient care and the ability to provide age-appropriate nursing services
- Proficiency in assessing and addressing patient and family needs, both physically and psychologically
- Excellent coordination and prioritization skills for individualized patient care
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is essential
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with medical professionals and support staff
