Staff Nurse - Post Anesthesia Care Unit

Join American Hospital Dubai as a Staff Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), where you will provide specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia. This role requires expertise in post-operative patient management, continuous monitoring, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and efficient patient recovery.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide age-specific, patient-centered care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation
- Conduct thorough pre- and post-anesthesia assessments, monitoring patients’ recovery from anesthesia and identifying potential complications
- Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to deliver optimal post-operative care
- Administer pain management interventions and manage nausea, vomiting, and other post-anesthetic effects
- Ensure proper infection control measures are followed to maintain a sterile and safe environment
- Monitor vital signs, oxygen levels, and sedation status, promptly responding to any deterioration in patient condition
- Document all patient care activities accurately and in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards
- Maintain and ensure the availability of essential equipment and medications required for post-anesthesia care
- Provide patient and family education regarding post-surgical care, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, incident reporting, and adherence to Joint Commission International (JCI) standards
- Support and mentor new nursing staff as a preceptor when applicable
- Maintain clinical competency through ongoing training, certification renewals, and participation in professional development programs

Required Skills and Experience

- Minimum of two years of post-graduate nursing experience in a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or critical care setting
- Bachelor\'s degree in Nursing or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution
- Valid nursing license/registration to practice in the home country and/or country of last employment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills for post-operative patient management
- Knowledge of pain management protocols, emergency response procedures, and infection control standards
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced clinical environment
