Mechanical Technician – Syncrolift and Shipyard Equipment Maintenance
DP World UAE is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to support the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems in its shipyard and port operations in Dubai. This hands-on role focuses on fault diagnosis, equipment overhauls, and installation of mechanical plant, ensuring maximum equipment uptime and operational safety.

What Does a Mechanical Technician Do?
- Perform fault diagnosis, systematic strip-down, and repairs of mechanical equipment such as cranes, winches, pumps, compressors, and valves
- Carry out maintenance and overhauls of syncrolift systems, Rexroth shiplifts, sheaves, and gearboxes
- Replace wire ropes and ensure proper function of heavy lifting systems
- Plan and request spare parts in advance to minimize procurement delays and equipment downtime
- Support installation of new mechanical systems and infrastructure at port or shipyard facilities
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in all job areas
- Act as foreman on assigned projects when required and support daily departmental operations
- Inspect materials and report defects prior to use to ensure safety and quality
- Work closely with supervisors, foremen, and management to maintain efficient operations
- Participate in technical training and departmental workshops as needed
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on shipyard mechanical systems
- Identify and communicate potential issues before they lead to equipment failure
- Perform mechanical installation and alignment on heavy-duty systems
- Oversee and support daily repair tasks and minor projects within assigned scope
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks and safety observations
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and internal policies during all operations
What Skills Are Needed for a Mechanical Technician in Dubai?
Education & Experience:
- Technical diploma or equivalent certification in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Maintenance
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in shipyard or industrial mechanical maintenance roles
- Practical knowledge of syncrolift systems, gearboxes, and mechanical lifting equipment
Technical Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair abilities
- Understanding of port and marine mechanical systems
- Familiarity with industrial maintenance tools, rigging, and safety protocols
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work independently and in a team under pressure
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Willingness to work shifts or extended hours if required
