Manager - Bauxite Residue, R&D Engineering
Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Manager - Bauxite Residue, R&D Engineering to lead technology development projects for the productive utilization of Bauxite residue from Emirates Global Aluminium\'s Al Taweelah Alumina Refinery. This role involves defining project direction, leading research and development initiatives, and ensuring compliance with local, federal, and international standards. You will play a strategic role in driving EGA\'s Bauxite Residue (BxR) Use Roadmap and contribute to achieving a zero landfill outcome.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee functional policies, systems, and procedures for the preparation, treatment, and application of BxR for productive uses.
- Ensure compliance with procedural and legislative requirements while delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
- Prepare and recommend budget items for project engineering development within the BxR Research & Development Group.
- Monitor financial performance and capitalize on performance improvement opportunities.
- Supervise day-to-day project engineering operations of the Bauxite Residue Research & Development Group.
- Collaborate with technology providers, equipment suppliers, research organizations, and regulatory bodies to identify viable and compliant BxR utilization opportunities.
- Align developed programs for BxR\'s agronomic use with technical and operational performance standards.
- Stay updated on bauxite ore feed quality changes by interacting with the Strategic Raw Materials department.
- Support the Director of Bauxite Residue R&D in conducting research to achieve a zero landfill outcome for ATA\'s BxR production.
- Lead and manage FEL1, FEL2 (and FEL3 where appropriate) phases of capital projects, including schedules, costs, and scopes.
- Manage project risks, ensure stakeholder alignment, and implement mitigation plans.
- Define and initiate applied research programs for viable applications of ATA BxR, ensuring cost-effective outcomes.
- Identify target applications or markets for ATA BxR-derived products and conduct environmental impact assessments.
- Assist with financial impact assessments of identified solutions at various development stages.
- Develop a central repository and knowledge management strategy for R&D data and insights.
- Represent EGA in technological forums, research establishments, and government bodies.
- Supervise consultant scopes, budget, personnel, and outputs, ensuring efficiency and target achievement.
- Manage revisions to procedures, systems, and processes to optimize productivity.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental management policies.
- Perform other related duties or assignments as directed.
Required Skills and Experience:
Education:
- B.Eng / MSc / PhD in Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or a related discipline from a recognized academic institution/university.
- Post-graduate business/finance qualifications are advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in major capital studies and projects in mineral processing, chemical engineering, or civil works.
- 10+ years of experience in the alumina industry, including production, technical management, or project management roles with a proven track record of project delivery.
- Significant experience managing research activities/groups in alumina refining R&D, including industry and university collaboration.
