What Does a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Robotics Do?
This position involves developing advanced methodologies that fuse nonlinear and optimal control with reinforcement learning to model, control, and optimize robotic systems operating in dynamic environments. The work is highly interdisciplinary and contributes to innovations in intelligent robotics, embedded systems, and field experimentation.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Conduct original and high-impact research in control theory, reinforcement learning, and robotics
- Design, implement, and evaluate experiments in field robotic environments
- Develop and maintain reproducible research code in C++, Python, and embedded systems
- Publish peer-reviewed papers and present findings in top-tier conferences
- Collaborate closely with PhD students, researchers, and partners across NYU’s global network
- Visualize results and contribute to robotics software and system integration
- Participate in grant writing and documentation activities
What Qualifications Are Required?
Education:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related fields
Required Experience & Skills:
- First-author publications in top-tier journals or conferences
- Proven experience with field robotics and integrating hardware and software systems
- Strong programming skills in C++, Python, and embedded real-time systems
- Familiarity with GitHub code maintenance, data visualization, and documentation
- Strong foundation in robot modeling, nonlinear control, and reinforcement learning
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, independent, and collaborative research mindset
Preferred Skills:
- Hands-on experience with robotic control frameworks
- Demonstrated success in multidisciplinary projects
