What Does a Research Instrumentation Scientist in Robotics and AI Do?
This role blends scientific research support, lab strategy, and hands-on development of high-tech systems. You will spearhead innovation in lab automation and AI-driven experimentation, mentor technical teams, and collaborate with faculty across diverse disciplines.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Provide technical and scientific expertise for faculty and research teams
- Lead and optimize robotics, AI, and automation-based research experiments
- Train users in safe and effective use of AI tools, sensors, and robotic platforms
- Apply machine learning and data science to enhance lab performance and insights
- Develop SOPs and maintain operational continuity for lab instrumentation
- Manage lab safety, compliance, and staff knowledge transfer processes
- Strategize for the growth and modernization of core lab capabilities
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies in mechatronics and AI
What Qualifications Are Required?
Education:
- PhD in Robotics, Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years in robotics/automation and AI applications within a research environment
- Hands-on proficiency in AI, automation systems, and robotic hardware
Technical Skills:
- Programming: Python, LabView, Matlab, C/C++
- Data science and machine learning techniques
- Familiarity with robotics lab setup, CAD design, PCB layout, and motion capture systems
What Skills Are Preferred?
- Prior leadership or lab supervisory experience
- Experience integrating AI with embedded hardware systems
- Expertise in electronics manufacturing or high-complexity prototyping
