Research Scientist – Materials Science & Electrochemistry

The position is based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This role focuses on materials science and electrochemistry with key responsibilities in the areas of interfacial electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, and the development of materials for energy conversion and environmental technologies.

What Does a Research Scientist Do?
The role will support a project focused on developing nanomaterials with enhanced efficiency, scalability, and mechanical strength. Responsibilities include designing and characterizing materials using advanced techniques such as X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and porosity analysis. The successful candidate will prepare publications, draft grant proposals, supervise lab activities, and mentor junior researchers where applicable. Work will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Maryam AlNahyan.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Design and synthesize nanomaterials for electrochemical applications
- Characterize materials using electron microscopy, diffraction techniques, and porosity analysis
- Conduct electrochemical testing using impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and other relevant methods
- Develop device prototypes for testing and validation
- Prepare technical manuscripts and grant applications
- Oversee laboratory activities and mentor junior team members
- Collaborate closely with faculty, students, and research stakeholders
What Skills Are Needed for a Research Scientist in Abu Dhabi?
Education:
- PhD in Interdisciplinary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field
Experience:
- Demonstrated research in materials fabrication and characterization, particularly nanomaterials and graphene
- Experience with analytical techniques such as SEM, XRD, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, and gas adsorption
- Background in energy storage, electrolysis, and conversion devices is preferred
- Knowledge of electrochemical systems and interfaces
- Experience in developing scalable prototypes and evaluating mechanical strength
Skills:
- Strong publication record and scientific writing ability
- Experience in leading research projects or teams is advantageous
