Azizi Developments is expanding its footprint into the energy sector and is seeking a seasoned General Manager to lead the development and operations of a large-scale coal-fired power station in Afghanistan. Based at the company’s head office in Dubai, this strategic leadership role involves frequent travel to Afghanistan to ensure smooth project execution and plant operations aligned with the company\'s long-term energy goals.

What Does a General Manager – Coal Power Plant Do?
- Drive the setup, execution, and operations of a coal-fired power station
- Advise executive leadership on long-term energy strategy and regulatory compliance
- Lead cross-functional teams and manage all facets of technical and business operations
- Champion efficiency, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Direct the planning, setup, commissioning, and daily operations of the coal-fired power plant
- Provide strategic leadership aligned with Azizi’s broader energy diversification initiatives
- Establish KPIs and operational benchmarks to optimize plant performance and cost control
- Oversee plant maintenance schedules, safety protocols, and risk mitigation efforts
- Ensure compliance with local and international environmental standards and energy regulations
- Build and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and support staff
- Develop long-term stakeholder relations with regulatory bodies, suppliers, and local authorities
- Represent Azizi in policy discussions, energy forums, and sustainability dialogues
What Skills Are Needed for This Role?
Education:
- Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, or Environmental Science
- Master\'s degree or MBA preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years in the energy sector with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles
- Specific experience managing coal-fired power generation projects is essential
- Proven expertise in turbine/generator operations, environmental compliance, and plant safety
- Track record of cost optimization, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory navigation
Skills:
- Strong technical understanding of combustion systems and coal-fired infrastructure
